No-exam life insurance

What makes applicants eligible for expedited underwriting, the mechanics of how it functions, and what happens if traditional underwriting is needed instead.

Many insurers now provide expedited underwriting for applicants meeting age and coverage thresholds, deciding based on your application, pharmacy records, driving history, and other data sources rather than an in-person exam. Approvals can come through in twenty-four hours or less. Each rate shown here indicates if an exam is mandatory, possible, or waived for that specific plan.

What it changes

Skipping an exam doesn't bypass underwriting. Your statements are verified, and policies issued based on false answers can be contested in the first two years. The carrier may request an exam or bloodwork if its data checks raise questions; you decide whether to move forward.

Who tends to qualify

Usually younger applicants (around 60 or under) seeking amounts within the carrier's accelerated guidelines, with clean medical history and no recent tobacco use qualify. Recent blood work from a doctor's visit may be accepted by some carriers as a substitute for a new exam.

Should an exam be part of the process, it typically takes a half-hour to forty minutes, performed by a paramedic at your location in the Long Beach area, and comes at no cost. Exam results frequently help healthy applicants move to a better rate class, so an exam may actually work in your favor.
